What to Expect

To begin the music therapy process, the music therapist completes an in-home evaluation to determine a client’s individual goals and objectives, as well as the frequency of sessions, typically once a week, depending on availability, budget, and clinical need. During sessions, a client may listen to music, compose a song, play instruments, sing, move to music, or talk about music. Clients do not have to have any music ability or previous experience playing an instrument to benefit from music therapy services. Music therapy emphasizes the process of engaging with music rather than creating a final product. Through this process, clients work toward their individual goals and objectives with the support of the Music therapist. Sessions are fun while also addressing clients’ needs.
